When UF needed help, SERVPRO of Alachua County West was there

When we received the call that the University of Florida's equipment caught on fire, we rushed to help!

Our team sorted through all the equipment; categorizing, organizing and cleaning what we could. We spent hours making sure everything was accounted for!

We even held some items at our warehouse to keep them safe!

No one is untouchable from storm damage.

No one is untouchable from storm damage.

Here in Florida we have taken a cue from the past as well as hurricanes that have hit elsewhere.  No matter the planning ahead, we still cannot predict the storms and what damage they cause.  This is a new construction home on the east coast that was built "high and dry" according to historical storm facts.  During Hurricane Matthew they received a storm surge that brought water and muck over 2 feet high into their home.  Luckily, they were prepared and had SERVPRO of Alachua County West's number on hand because we are "Faster to any size disaster."

Fire can affect your treasures even when you think they are out of reach.

Fire can affect your treasures even when you think they are out of reach.

Fires cause a lot of damage, but in many cases, the soot they create can create even more.  Even family heirlooms you think may be out of reach of danger can be touched by this black monster.  This photo of a family heirloom from a local customer shows that this teapot seemed to be the only thing above her cabinets the black monster embraced.

If the historical experts trust SERVPRO... so should you.

If the historical experts trust SERVPRO... so should you.

As hurricane Hermine churned up one of the largest storm surges on parts of the gulf coast since the storm of the century,  many residents of small coastal communities were unable to fully prepare.  A local coastal historical society on a small popular key was unable to thwart all damage, but they knew they could entrust the expertise of SERVPRO of Alachua County West to dry out their precious artifacts.

We do a whole lot more than just fire and water restoration.

We do a whole lot more than just fire and water restoration.

Here at SERVPRO of Alachua County West we can handle almost any cleaning or restoration need, even ones you don't normally think of.  Our local college of Veterinary Medicine had a problem with vermin as you can see in the photo.  Not only are their patient files important, but so is the sanitary conditions for their students and employees.  Just another reason they keep our number handy, because we can handle most any cleaning need!

Storm Surge can leave you wondering where to begin

Storm Surge can leave you wondering where to begin

Hurricanes bring heavy rains and gusting winds that cause lots of damage, but in many coastal towns it is the storm surge that causes the most damage.  It can be overwhelming and leave you wondering where to start.  Just like this small coastal restaurant that came in to chaos and destruction in all areas of their restaurant due to storm surge.

What are those cob webs after a fire? Bad housekeeping? No, they are Soot Tags

What are those cob webs after a fire? Bad housekeeping? No, they are Soot Tags

Soot tags form when synthetic/petroleum based sources burn. Our customers often mistake the soot tags as smoke that has attached itself to spider webs that were present during the fire. Luckily, they are happy to find out that in fact, they are new unique chains of soot that gather in low areas of concentration, not evidence of unwanted house guests.

Mold found behind a drawer in bathroom vanity

Mold found behind a drawer in bathroom vanity

Sometimes you can have water damage slowly and silently affecting your home right under your nose.  It is so small, that another kind of damage is the only way you realize there may be a problem.  This photo is of mold caused by a slow bathroom water leak behind a vanity.  The customer had no idea what had been growing behind her make-up drawer until a house fire caused soot clean-up throughout her home and our technicians spotted the damage.

Sometimes there's even too much water for "The Swamp".

Sometimes there's even too much water for "The Swamp".

Anyone familiar with the UF campus here in Gainesville, is familiar with the Reitz Union.  This photo is of the chamber used by the student body for organizational meetings which was flooded by a faulty sprinkler system.  It also flooded offices, and hallways throughout the building.  Our technicians came in and extracted and dried out the building, so the "Gators" could resume business in "The Swamp".

What do you do if your General Contractor Discovers Mold?

What do you do if your General Contractor Discovers Mold?

This photo is containment that has been set up after a general contractor discovered a substantial amount of mold in the wall cavity.  Once mold has been disturbed it sporulates and spreads itself throughout your home.  Luckily this GM alerted the homeowner and we were able to contain the wall and the room itself until mold remediation could be completed.

Sometimes damage is caused by what's meant to protect us.

Sometimes damage is caused by what's meant to protect us.

The following photo is the picture of a local lab's flooded hallway.  This damaged was caused by the very thing meant to protect them from fire, a faulty sprinkler system.  Sometimes no matter how much we prepare, we still have to have a plan for when disaster does strike.  Make sure that SERVPRO of Alachua County west is a part of your disaster readiness plan!

If you spot mold during a remodel, stop, and call SERVPRO!

If you spot mold during a remodel, stop, and call SERVPRO!

Remodeling your home or business can be time consuming and expensive, but the reward at the end of the day is fantastic.  You also have to plan for the unforeseen disasters and know what to do.  This photo is of a restaurant that sat vacant for months before being remodeled.  As the construction crew was in the process of remodeling they found mold and called in SERVPRO of Alachua County West.  They knew this could stop the potential for contamination of unaffected areas, therefore minimizing the spread throughout the new building materials.

No one is completely safe from disaster striking.

No one is completely safe from disaster striking.

One of the most devastating disasters can be fire.  It comes from many different sources and causes as well as the fact it's movement is totally unpredictable as it ravages your home or business.  This photo is of a local fire extinguisher company that had a fire damage from faulty electrical wiring that occurred after hours.  Luckily, their alarm system alerted the fire department and SERVPRO made it "Like it never even happened."

Water can do damage you can't see.

Water can do damage you can't see.

It can be devastating when your home is a soggy mess, but water can do much more damage than you can see.  As this photo shows, it is important to remove all damaged materials as soon as you can.  As hours and days go by water wicks under and up walls and can damage initially unaffected rooms.  Though the mess of seeing flooring and baseboards being pulled up can be stressful, it can spare even more damage to other rooms.

Make sure you mold is remediated correctly.

Make sure you mold is remediated correctly.

Mold remediation can be complex.  Without the proper testing, it can also be hard to remediate properly.  The spores which spread mold become more prominent as you disturb it and if not remediated properly can be spread to unaffected areas of your home.  This picture is an example of proper containment with a decon chamber to stop the spread of spores as remediation is completed.

A company you can trust your business to.

In business, it is important to work with someone you trust.  SERVPRO of Alachua County West prides itself in being trustworthy!  After all, many of the companies you entrust your money to, such as this photo of a local bank branch, entrust SERVPRO to be there to service their emergency needs.

The damage storms do can be overwhelming, call the experts.

The damage storms do can be overwhelming, call the experts.

The rising floodwaters from Hurricane Irma were catastrophic to many homeowners.  Many times it can be tempting to begin restoration by yourself, but as this photo shows, not having the correct tools or experience can leave you with even more damage.  These homeowners tried cutting out their own drywall, but had to replace more than what was damaged by flooding as they struggled with tear-out.  Do yourself a favor and call SERVPRO of Alachua County West to begin the process and save those extra dollars lost to good intentions.

Fire can be dangerous if you are not a professional

Fire can be dangerous if you are not a professional

This photo shows a room affected by fire.  Initially most of the fire was in the attic space and this room seemed safe after the fire was put out.  The homeowners soon found out that fire and the water used to put it out can do damage that can't always be seen right away when the ceiling fell in days later.  Don't put you and your family in danger, call SERVPRO of Alachua County West, the experts in fire restoration.

Who does 911 call when they have a water emergency?

Who does 911 call when they have a water emergency?

We are all taught from the time we could dial a phone, that you call 911 in the case of an emergency.  The Heroes that make up our fire, police, sheriffs, and EMS departments keep us safe in our time of need.  But who does 911 call when their offices are in the middle of a disaster?  They call SERVPRO of Alachua County West, because they know that we are "Faster to any size disaster."

Just another example of why you should have your AC serviced annually.

Just another example of why you should have your AC serviced annually.

Most of us Floridians know the importance of Air conditioning in Florida.  Not only does it keep us comfortable in the warm months, but it also keeps the humidity in our homes under control.  This is very important when it comes to the ability for mold to form in our home.  Many people do not realize that the AC unit itself can cause the conditions to be perfect for mold growth if not properly installed and maintained.  This is became apparent to one customer, as shown in this photo.  They had not had their unit serviced in many years and the pan beneath had developed a leak which slowly led to high moisture levels in the closet which affected surrounding walls as well.  The heat from the working unit in the closet also aided the mold in its growth.  If they had their unit regularly serviced, the damage could have been a lot less.

How bad is your soot damage?

How bad is your soot damage?

A fire in your home can be devastating in itself, but the soot affects almost every surface.  We have many customers who do not realize the number of rooms affected by the soot until we start wiping surfaces with our fire sponges.  This photo is an example of how it can coat your walls so uniformly it does not look that bad, until we start cleaning.

Water Damage can come from many unseen sources.

Water Damage can come from many unseen sources.

There are many water sources that can cause damage to your home that you cannot necessarily see.  Once the power of water is unleashed it has to find somewhere to go, which is evident in this photo of a slab leak.  The force of the water trying to find an escape brought sand and building materials up with it directly through the tile in the home pictured.  The best preparation in cases such as this is having the number to SERVPRO of Alachua County West handy in case of emergency!

Are you ready for winter storms in the Sunshine State?

Are you ready for winter storms in the Sunshine State?

Here in Florida we are used to moderate winter temps and plenty of sunshine, though we are no stranger to winter storms and sudden freezing weather at night and climbing temperatures the next day.  This is a recipe for frozen pipes which can burst with the sudden thaw from fast moving storm systems and rising temperatures.  This photo shows that sometimes these pipes are not easy to access and can cause lots of damage.

Don't let disaster slow your business.

Don't let disaster slow your business.

As a business owner, disaster can slow your business to a crawl.  Not only can it affect your ability to do your job well, it can affect foot traffic and customer peace of mind.  This water damage pictured, affected a Home Health Agency and put customer information at risk of damage.  Quick mitigation and trusted technicians averted crisis and kept the work flow going in a time sensitive occupation.

Fire can cause more than just soot and smoke damage.

Fire can cause more than just soot and smoke damage.

A fire in your home can be devastating.  Soot not only causes odor issues and wreaks havak on your electronics and anything that it touches, but a fire damage can cause lots of other disasters in your home.  The water used to put out the fire has to be properly mitigated to prevent mold and the structural damage can be devastating.  This photo looks like festive holiday snow, but in reality it is blown insulation covering everything due to a fire damage which exposed attic space.  One call to SERVPRO of Alachua County West and we can take care of ALL of your disasters.

Minimize storm damage by calling for help right away.

Minimize storm damage by calling for help right away.

Remodeling woes - Mold.

Water Damage can happen where you least expect it.

Water Damage can happen where you least expect it.

Water damage can sometimes happen in places you normally wouldn't expect, such as evident in this photo of a supply closet.  Not only is it an area you wouldn't expect, but also in an area that may not be visible right away.  It is important to check any possible sources of water damage before they occur.

Lasting affects of fire on your business

Lasting affects of fire on your business

Fire can affect your business in many ways.  This photo shows the fogging of a business after a neighboring business had a fire and they were affected by soot and fire odor.  Sometimes fire can leave you with lingering affects that you can't always see.  Odor is just another issue SERVPRO of Alachua County West can handle for our customers.
